Shifting Sands

Overview

An enormous black sand dune in a perfect crescent shape. It looked like aliens had left it. This
black sand dune originated from the Maasai’s most holy of places, Ol Doinyo Lengai or
“Mountain of God”. The Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano is barely visible in the far distance; this
dune had traveled a long way. It is believed to shift with the wind, around 10 meters per year,
always retaining its crescent shape. It was apparently no problem to clamber on top and to feel
this fine sand drift through on your fists.
