Horse-Back Holiday on Singita-Grumeti Reserve / Manyara Ranch / Makoa-Farm
The scenery alone is worth the visit. Few farms enjoy such a stunning setting with Mount Kilimanjaro rising majestically to the north and the plains of the Maasai Steppe spreading out to the south. The farm is set on a ridge bordered by two rivers, so spectacular views accompany you throughout your ride.
For the most part you will ride through the natural grass and bush land of the farm. Birds call from the bush and trees as you pass. Butterflies float around you, and monkeys play in the trees. We will explore the different areas of the farm and coffee plantation, riverside forest, thick bush, and grassland. You will be amazed at the diversity of landscapes you can experience on a short riding safari.

Day 1
Arrive in the morning with time to settle into your rooms and learn some history of the farm while getting to know your hosts, Elisabeth and Laszlo. Lunch and refreshments are served family-style on the verandah. On a clear day you’ll enjoy spectacular views of Kilimanjaro! Afterwards we’ll head out on horseback for a ride to explore the farm and learn more about farming in Africa. We will interrupt our ride for an unusual wildlife viewing –a colony of rare mountain fruit bats. You may also see one of the shy, very impressive monitor lizards that live nearby.

Day 2
Today, our trail leads through farmland and bush towards Masasiland. When we reach the Kikafu River Gorge, we’ll dismount and lead the horses into this enchanting area to explore. We’ll have a break for some refreshments under a fig tree then make our way back passing flower and coffee plantations. How much time we spend exploring depends on the ability of the riders. After lunch and a break we will start again for an evening ride. The day ends with sunset on horseback and, weather permitting, the breathtaking scenery of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the evening sun
